what is Beam? The horizontal structural member used to carry vertical load, shear load and horizontal load also is known as Beam. It is a major and important component of building structure. It is used in major construction like trusses, bridges etc.    BEAM According to requirements different beams are used in different conditions. For example Cantilever beam, Overhanging beam etc. Types of Beam: B eams are of different types but in this article we divided types of of beam in three criteria so that you can understand and learn easily and quickly. According to end support: 1.Simply supported beam 2.Continuous beam 3.Overhanging beam 4.Cantilever beam 5.Fixed beam 1. Simply supported Beam:                    The beam which are resting freely on its support at its both ends are known as Simply supported beam. simply supported beam 2. Fixed Beams: The beams which are fixed at its both ends are known a

    1. W hat is plinth beam? PLINTH BEAM   Ø     It is a reinforcement concrete beam constructed between the              wall and the foundation of a building.         2. What is the purpose of plinth beam in a                  building?   Ø   The main purpose of the plinth beam is to prevent the wall from cracks developed from the foundation of a building.   Ø Plinth beam distribute the load of wall over the foundation.      3. Application of plinth beam: Ø In earthquake areas it is mandatory to provide plinth beam. Ø To provide a base to the structure over the natural ground level .     4. Construction of plinth beam. Ø    Minimum depth of plinth beam should be 20cm and its width should be equal to the width of the final foundation. Ø      Formwork for plinth beam should be properly installed with accurate dimension. Ø      Concrete should be poured carefully and well compacted. Ø      Minimum strength of the plinth beam concrete shou
